Implementing Comprehensive, Integrated, Three-tiered Models to Meet Students' Academic, Behavior, and Social Needs: A Researcher-Practitioner Partnership
The comprehensive, integrated, three-tiered (CI3T) model of prevention blends the principles of response to intervention (focused primarily on academic domains), positive behavior interventions and supports (focused primarily on behavioral domains), along with a validated program focused on developing students' social skill sets. CI3T offers one comprehensive, integrated, data-driven model for analyzing data at the program and student level to determine effectiveness for improved student achievement. In addition to monitoring program implementation in terms of treatment integrity, this plan involves using universal screening data and student achievement and progression data to examine overall school level performance over time and to detect and support students for whom primary prevention efforts are insufficient, thus requiring evidence-based strategies and practices at Tier 2 or Tier 3.
